Everyday in everything you do, there are important choices to be made.
The road is no exception.
When you go… where you go….will you walk, drive, bike or use mass transit?
The choice is yours, but most importantly in all the choices you make…
Choose Safety for Life.
It’s as simple as following the rules of the road:
- Stay alert and avoid distractions.
- Buckle up.
- Drive sober.
- Share the road.
- Obey speed limits; slow down.
Why?
- On average, more than 630 lives are lost every year in Maryland as a result of traffic crashes.
- Traffic crashes are the number one killer of people between the ages of 4 and 34.
More people are killed in traffic crashes than homicides.
- Traffic crashes affect everyone; and even if you’re doing everything right, a traffic incident could destroy life as you know it.
- It is estimated that traffic crashes cost us more than $2 billion every year when factoring in property damage, lost wages, lost productivity, legal fees, hospital costs, medical bills, insurance increases, the list goes on.
What can I do?
- Start by making the choice – Choose Safety for Life. Take the traffic safety pledge and lead by example.
- Review the rules of the road.
- Take the driver improvement course and brush up on your driving skills.
- Know someone who has been killed in a crash, injured? Contact us… join our speaker’s bureau; remember a friend or loved one in our memorial.
- If you’re in a crash… MOVE IT…
- Bystander care – what to do when you come across a crash.
